Our client is a small but growing UK manufacturer in the metals industry, supplying some of the most demanding industries in the world — defence, telecoms, marine and general engineering.

This role sits at the centre of an exciting period of growth with a genuine opportunity to shape a growing sales function rather than just fit into an existing one.

The role

This is a rare, full-spectrum technical sales role. You won't just be taking orders, you'll own the whole journey from enquiry to delivery:

Reviewing customer enquiries and technical specifications, working out material, process and testing requirements
Estimating and costing jobs, sourcing material from suppliers where needed
Quoting and negotiating with customers, then processing and managing orders through to delivery
Building close working relationships with the production team to make sure what's quoted can be made, on time and to spec
Acting as the main point of contact for your accounts — this is customer service and account management as much as it is sales

About you

Come from a manufacturing or engineering background — ideally from a smaller, subcontract or precision engineering environment where you've had to wear more than one hat (estimating, technical, customer-facing)
Comfortable being consultative rather than pushy — this is a technical, detail-led sale, not a high-volume phone-sales role
Methodical and precise: small errors here can have real consequences once something reaches the shop floor
Happy to be based on-site, with occasional customer visits (mileage paid)

If you've been the person at a smaller manufacturing business who ends up doing a bit of everything from estimating, quoting, chasing suppliers to keeping customers happy, this could be a natural next step.
