Your new company
This role is a 12-month contract working for a government organisation in Taunton.
Monday - Friday 37 hours per week.
Hybrid working but must be local to Taunton as you will need to go in 1-2 days per week. Please do not apply if you are not able to do this as it is a requirement for the role.
Pay is £16.85 per hour PAYE.

Your new role
Processing queries coming into the HR shared service: 50%*Monitoring the HR Requests and other related inboxes and ensuring responses to a wide variety of queries in line with service level agreements. Types of requests include but are not limited to policy related questions, requests for support and guidance, electronic filing, reference requests, note taking, meeting requests, availability of wellbeing initiatives, providing job descriptions, new campaigns being launched, subject access requests and pension questions, raising purchase orders. Requests could be from potential job applicants, candidates, employees, managers, HR Business Partners, MOD data requests and occasionally others e.g. third-party suppliers.
*If the matter is complex, the post holder would identify the correct SME to ensure that the query or action is completed to ensure customer satisfaction. For example, if there is a complex or high-risk situation, they would be expected to escalate to a HRBP or if there is a MOD or CS report to liaise with the HR Systems and MI Specialist and the Head of HR Delivery.
Supporting wider business or cross-functional initiatives: 25%
*The post holder will contribute to the delivery of wider company initiatives, as set out by the People strategy or otherwise, for example, they will support business improvement initiatives through taking part in business process reviews, will support wellbeing through note taking and or attendance to affinity groups on behalf of the HR Advisor.
*Co-ordinating key processes such as workforce planning meetings, risk register, trade union meetings and the appointments panel, job evaluation process, regular HR meetings and purchases for the HR and People team.
* Supporting SMEs (such as pay, policy, employee relations and HRBPs etc) during periods of surge demand.
Providing advice and support for employee lifecycle and employee relations cases: 10%
* Signposting managers to the relevant policies and procedures and self-service documentation.
* Supporting managers to complete basic employee lifecycle template forms and letters and ensuring that these are put on file if necessary.
* Providing advice to managers in relation to the initial stages or lower risk employee relations cases (for example fact finding, absence management, occupational health referrals and flexible working requests).
* Processing occupational health or other referrals to professionals external to the UKHO.
* Supporting recruitment campaigns in times of surge demand including launching adverts, co-ordinating campaigns, onboarding and pre-employment screening.
* Supporting HR Advisors or other SMEs by taking notes in employee relations cases.
Updating the HR system, running routine reports and completing data compliance checks: 10%
* Supporting the HR Assistants with ensuring that the relevant HR systems and digital employee files are kept up to date and accurate.
* Liaising with payroll on any pay related issues or alerting to need to adjust salary payments.
* Managing employee lifecycle administration, including job and contract changes, processing leavers, maternity and shared parental leave including basic employee relations admin.
* Running regular routine reports from the HR system and complete data compliance checks such as data cleansing and purging in line with GDPR requirements.

Qualifications
* Student or Foundation member of the CIPD or working towards.
Experience
* Experience of working in a HR Assistant or HR Officer role in a busy environment.
* Experience of providing advice and guidance to managers of varying levels of seniority.
* Experience of updating and using HR systems.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
