Our client is a highly respected financial services organisation based in Taunton, with a strong reputation, loyal client base and a collaborative, people-focused culture. Having achieved consistent year-on-year growth, they are now looking to appoint a commercially minded Finance Director who is excited by the opportunity to influence the direction of the business and play a key role in its next phase of growth.

This role would particularly suit someone who has enjoyed success within a small to medium-sized organisation, where they've been close to decision-making, worn multiple hats, and had the opportunity to make a tangible impact. Rather than being one of many layers within a large corporate structure, you'll be a trusted partner to the leadership team, helping shape strategy, support growth initiatives and drive business performance.

Salary: Up to £130,000 DOE
Hours: Full time (Monday-Friday)

The Role:
As Finance Director, you will take ownership of the organisation's financial strategy, providing both commercial insight and financial leadership. Working closely with the CEO and Board, you will have a genuine voice in key business decisions and the freedom to influence how the business evolves.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:

Develop and execute the organisation's financial strategy aligned with business objectives.
Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on financial planning, performance, and risk management.
Support acquisitions and commercial decision-making.

Financial Management & Control:

Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and statutory compliance.
Maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures.
Manage cash flow, working capital, and funding requirements.

Governance, Risk & Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all regulatory, tax, and reporting requirements.
Lead audit processes and cultivate relationships with external auditors.
Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.

Commercial & Performance Insight:

Provide clear financial insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
Analyse profitability, cost efficiency, and return on investment.
Develop KPIs and performance dashboards for senior leadership.

Team Leadership:

Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team as it grows.
Foster a high-performance culture with strong accountability and collaboration.
Ensure succession planning and capability development within finance.

Skills & Experience:

Strong commercial acumen with strategic thinking capabilities.
Experience working within a regulated professional services company
Deep knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
Experience working with senior stakeholders and boards.
Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

Clear communicator able to translate financial data into business insights.
Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity.

We're keen to speak with commercially astute finance professionals who enjoy operating in agile, entrepreneurial environments and can balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach. You may already be a Finance Director, or perhaps a Head of Finance or Financial Controller ready to step into a broader leadership role.
