Meeting high standards of health and safety is essential in the electrical industry, and we are keen to build on our first-class track record even further. With this in mind, we are looking for a Trainee Health & Safety Advisor to join our team.
Reporting to our Health & Safety Manager, this site-based role will work closely with our Production and Management teams to continuously improve our organisational safety performance and the promotion of a positive health and safety culture.
On a daily basis you will support the Health & Safety Manager in monitoring and improving the safety, health, and environmental performance of a variety of sites, as well as the monitoring of training within your areas of responsibility. Previous experience in the construction industry would be beneficial but not essential.
After successfully completing a qualification with us, we expect you to move into a Health & Safety Advisor role after 2 years, with further opportunities to progress into a Regional Health & Safety Advisor role, when one becomes available.

This position requires daily travel across your area of responsibility and occasional travel across our branch network. Working hours are based on a 39-hour week, typically 8.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.00am – 4.00pm on Fridays, with an hour for lunch.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with records, health & safety audits, inspections, and monitoring activities to verify compliance with, and effectiveness of, company health & safety processes and procedures
  • Completing daily site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Completing and following up on all actions raised in audit reports within your area of responsibility
  • Develop and deliver innovative means of interacting with our colleagues that promote positive safety culture, wellbeing and protecting the environment
  • Supporting the Health & Safety team to conduct incident investigations and reports
  • Assisting with reporting, recording, investigating and analysing accidents & incidents
  • Monitor and report on compliance and training across your area, following up where required
  • Supporting the implementation of Company Safety Policy, Plans and Initiatives
  • Attending and participating in site meetings to improve site communications

Experience:

  • Experience of using a variety of IT packages i.e. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Previous health and safety qualification or experience would be advantageous but is not essential

Skills & Attributes

  • Full UK driving licence with a willingness to travel.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to record and produce accurate information with attention to detail
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and conflicting priorities
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations/colleagues
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with the team
  • The willingness to work towards an appropriate HS&E qualification
  • A commitment to developing knowledge, skills and abilities in health safety and environmental practices
