Job Details

Meadows Care has an exciting opportunity for a Residential Support Worker to join our team in Rochdale and the surrounding area. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £22,458 as a Grade 3 leading to £25,000 as a Team Leader (197 hours). We also offer an extended contract of 236 hours as a Grade 3 unqualified RSW starting at £26,904 to £29,949 as a Team Leader 1 (236 hours).

Meadows Care offers therapeutic residential placements to young people with complex needs.   You will receive training in specific therapeutic techniques including attachment theories and PACE training.

We run small homes for just 2, 3 or 4 young people, with high staffing ratios to provide the care and support required. We are based across the North West of England and in the Midlands.

As our Residential Support Worker, you are responsible for assisting in the promotion of good childcare practice in accordance with Meadows Care Policies and Procedures, Quality Standards and Every Child Matters, and for providing care, support, and supervision, including household tasks, cooking, shopping, laundry, and independent living skills to the young people in their care.

Your responsibilities as our Residential Support Worker:

  • Maintaining an environment of therapeutic care for all young people
  • Actively promoting the welfare, safety, personal development, and wellbeing of young people placed at Meadows Care
  • Administering prescribed and non-prescribed medication to young people as dictated by health practitioners and according to the young person’s Placement Package and Meadows Care Policies
  • Maintaining effective communication skills and written records
  • Liaising with significant others on a day-to-day basis, participating in the assessment of the young person’s needs and the implementation of placement plans and risk assessments
  • Promoting the participation of the young person placed in the decision-making process of the home
  • Ensuring that the physical, emotional and psychological needs of young people placed at Meadows Care are met where at all possible
  • Supporting young people by driving them to home visits, school, and appointments etc. that is in or out of the local area and may involve long distances via motorways
  • Carrying out duties in line with Meadows Care policies and procedures and Equal Opportunities
  • Being aware of Meadows Care policy on codes of conduct and setting an acceptable role model standard
  • Carrying out duties as stated in the home’s Statement of Purpose in line with the Quality Care Standards
  • Working in partnership with educational staff to ensure that the educational needs of the young people are met
  • Promoting anti-discriminatory practices and equal opportunity practices in line with Meadows Care policy
  • Attending and taking an active part in team meetings, handovers and supervisions
  • Committing to training and development through Meadows Care, this includes gaining the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Care

 

What we are looking for in our Residential Support Worker:

  • Ability to write ensuring others can read and understand reports and other documentation
  • Commitment to undertaking and completing within 2 years of start date Diploma Level 3 in Children and Young People in Residential Care
  • Commitment to personal development and learning
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to positively engage with young people
  • Ability to empathise with young people who have experienced emotional and behavioural difficulties 
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral with a range of individuals including Social Workers, parents and external professionals

We are based across the North West of England and in the Midlands. We ideally provide long term placements but we can accept emergency or short term placements if appropriate, based upon our impact assessment and matching assessment in the home.
