The Lead Project Manager will report to the Head of Projects for their relevant base region and will be responsible and accountable for successful completion of professional services projects for SCC’s end customers. Projects are delivered with a mix of time and materials and fixed price contracts toward high profile public sector and private sector clients.
The Lead Project Manager will be a highly motivated and business aware individual, able to work effectively with their project teams, their management, with other stakeholders in SCC and with the end customer. This must include effective communication, desire to develop relationships and hence increase sales.
The key objectives and responsibilities of this role are as follows:
·General
o Leading and delivering scale 3, 4 and 5 professional services projects as defined in the PMO Project Management Guide, or a portfolio of projects within a client portfolio. There may be situations where, in exceptional circumstances, the Lead Project Manager will be required to work outside of these bandings. SCC will do all we can to keep projects assigned to the Lead Project Manager in region, but we may occasionally ask that the Lead Project Manager run projects in another region
o Working with the business Pre-Sales teams to ensure projects response to Bids, RFP’s and SOW’s are in align with SCC current best practices. The Lead Project Manager shall also provide costs to the Pre-Sales team for the work being requested under the opportunity
o Strive to deliver a world class project management function by ensuring projects deliver on time, in budget and exceeds customers expectation of quality and delivery
o Understanding of Managed Services and impact of project change to service run by SCC or other suppliers
·Finances
o Solely responsible for accounting on all project costs and budgets
o Manage changes to cost, time, scope and quality in a controlled way, including working with SCC account management where such changes impact project budget
o Responsible for ensuring all SCC toolsets and reports are maintained with accurate financial information
o Responsible for ensure all invoices are delivered on-time and to proposed values this includes
§All resources requests loaded and validated in time as per PMO guidelines
§All milestones loaded with correct values and dates.
§Milestones to then be invoiced as per dates with any slippages managed via project change notice
§Understand to challenge customer when milestones won’t be meet to enable part billing or all billing
·Governance
o Deliver clear and concise stakeholder management internal and customer facing including Project Board creation, liaison with other key SCC service providers and 3rd party organisations
o Ability to liaise and work within the executive level both internally and with customers and suppliers
o Fully responsible for managing and governing all project risks and issues, working closely with workstreams and technical leads to ensure the mitigation or resolutions of these
o Responsible for owning and communication all escalations through to resolution
o Ability to build strong relationships both internally and with customers to assist with strong governance
o Adhering to latest PMO guidelines relating to project governance
o On larger projects be responsible for the management of multi-disciplined project team with matrix reports, ensuring all workstreams follow SCC best practices as per the latest PMO Guidelines and deliver workstreams, on-time, to budget and to quality.
·Mentoring & Development
o Acting as a mentor and role model to Associate Project Managers, including sharing knowledge and experience through formal and informal knowledge management initiatives
o Contribute towards and help to drive the on-going development of project management standards and approach with use of toolsets as required across all project engagements
o Deliver on accountabilities and KPIs agreed separately with the Head of Projects
o Support the PMO and the Project Management team across key engagements as part of the QA / support structure for individuals, ensuring that the following are contributed towards:
§Project services peer reviews (for documents and project products)
§Project services processes (guidance and on-going review)
§Project financials
·Project Management
o Creation and maintenance of management products as defined in the PMO Guideline documentation
o Manage and run project definition workshops, technical design workshops (not technical outcome but ensure workshop stay on point and in scope), risk workshops and product workshops
o Ensuring business continuity by maintaining effective project documentation and daily logging
o Provide without fail weekly, accurate and targeted reporting on project status using latest PMO Guidelines and reports
o Booking and management of resources required for project delivery
o Responsible for ensuring all change process are followed either internally or customer
Principal Accountabilities
·Ensure correct start up and management of the project, via the Acceptance Into Projects process, implementing the SCC model and agreed procedures set out within the PMO governance model utilising SCCs chosen project management system and document repository tools
·Effective use of management products in accordance with the PMO governance model and scaling including PIDs, plans, project logs & communication models to shape delivery such that the time, cost and scope are planned to a baseline, and delivery follows the plan
·Ensure project plan clearly articulates all customer pre-requites, enabling critical paths to be created and managed, showing customer’s and SCC’s impact to plan in missing critical path deliverables
·Effective risk management (to anticipate issues) via identification, assessment, planning, implementation, communication and monitoring
·Sole responsibility for issue management and escalation where necessary. Escalating promptly any issues that may in future have an impact on SCC or the future relationship with the customer
·Sole responsibility for timely booking and management of resources required for project delivery utilising SCCs resource request system
·Maintenance of weekly resource validations
·Maintenance of their forecast and actuals on a weekly basis
·Sole responsibility for managing the project budget and ensuring invoices are delivered against forecasts
·Changes which impact project budget are communicated with account management at the earliest opportunity
·Raising of Change Control Notes to cover off any changes to scope, cost and time in a timely manner, ensuring all changes are raised in advance of any work associated to change starting
·Raising of internal project change notes where appropriate
·Maintain customer and SCC internal weekly reporting methods in accordance with the relevant PMO governance and project scale, such that project status and progress is accurate and understood at all levels
·Continued business justification via end stage gate reviews, acceptance procedures and project board and customer approvals.
·Sole responsibility for project management documentation in accordance with the PMO governance model to ensure successful financial and process auditing
·Management of internal and external stakeholders including other key SCC service providers and 3rd party organisations
·Responsible for the creation of project closure documentation and customer sign-off
·Management of service transition where required
·Responsible for all required changes to be raised to internal or customer change approval boards prior to any changes to systems. Ensuring to follow internal or customer change approval board guidelines on when changes are required
Person Specification Qualifications
·PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification
·SC clearance
Knowledge and Experience
Essential –
·10 years plus relevant experience in IT or related industry, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects on-time, to budget and quality
·Proven track record of running finances on complex projects. Ability to forecast project budgets and deliver against forecast with clear communication and escalation where budget will be breached.
·Clear understanding of Contract Change Notice and Project Change Notice creation and management
·Project team management to ensure that the candidate always leads by example
·Creative problem solver
·Experience of running a number of simultaneous projects successfully
·Organised and structured approach to project documentation and project data
·Effective communicator at all levels
·Proficient in Microsoft products such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio and Project
·Experience of delivering large scale infrastructure projects
Desirable -
·Experience of working in a consultancy business model or similar where time is billed to clients.
·ITIL qualification preferable
·A good understanding of technology solutions
·Experience of ITIL, acceptance into service processes
