Head of Movement Building
Location: Flexible in UK
Salary: £52,000 - £57,688 Per Annum
Benefits: Pension, Life Assurance and Annual Leave
Duration: 12 months – Maternity Cover
Hours: Full Time for 37.5 hours per week
The natural world is in crisis. Across the UK, the RSPB is working with people, from individual supporters, to farmers, to community groups, to support them in taking action. But we need to do more. We need nature to be as popular as sport and as politically relevant as health. We need millions of people taking action and behaving differently for nature in order to influence the decisions and actions of politicians and businesses.
To halt and reverse the decline in biodiversity we need a response that is commensurate with the threat. We need to bring people with us and we need to build a movement so irresistible, so diverse and so unstoppable that it can't be ignored. During the course of this maternity cover you will:
* Lead on the delivery of a campaign to support our global influencing efforts to agree an ambitious deal for nature at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD),
* Run several community organising pilot projects in urban areas across the UK,
* Influence environment and food and farming policies, enable people to take action in their own lives,
* Deliver multiple education and youth engagement programmes
* Embark on an ambitious citizens project to create and implement a plan for nature
* Be instrumental in delivering on the ambition of the RSPB’s Strategy to 2030 to enable more, and more diverse people to act for nature.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Engagement, the Head of Movement Building is accountable for our Campaigning, Community Empowerment, and Education, Families & Youth functions at HQ level. Working closely with country teams and colleagues across the organisation, you will lead a diverse team working on programmes that use both mobilising and organising approaches to drive the systemic change nature needs.
What we need from you
As a change leader and maker, you will have the leadership and influencing skills to drive transformational change across the RSPB and beyond. With demonstratable skills in campaigning and community organising, you will have the drive and energy to help build a diverse, people powered movement for nature.
You will have:
1. Strong leadership skills to motivate a team
2. Influencing skills to build relationships internally and externally
3. Excellent communications skills
4. Strong empathy and interpersonal skills
5. Understanding of both mobilising and organising approaches to drive political, social and economic change
6. Awareness of the environmental issues facing the UK
This role can be performed remotely but you must be able to travel to RSPB offices when required.
The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
