At HMRC, we are committed to creating a great place to work for all our colleagues; an inclusive and respectful environment that reflects the diversity of the society we serve.

We want to maximise the potential of everyone who works for us, and we offer a range of flexible working patterns and support to make an exciting career at HMRC accessible to you.

Diverse perspectives and experiences are critical to our success, and we encourage applications from all people from all backgrounds with the experience and skills needed to perform this role.

About the Chief People Officer Group (CPO)

We are the HR team for the UK’s tax and customs authority, a strategic partner and service provider to HMRC's business. We are dedicated to enabling leaders and managers to improve the experience for people across HMRC; creating the capabilities we need to deliver our business; and enabling our people to deliver HMRC's vision for our customers.

This role sits within the Strategy, Inclusion and Employee Deal Directorate (SIED) of the Chief People Officer (CPO). The CPO Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) function is particularly focused on achieving HMRCs strategic objective to be a great place to work and the delivery of our statutory responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and the Northern Ireland Act 1998. The team and directorate are transforming into a professional centre of expertise for our internal stakeholders.

Job description
It is an exciting time to join our team. The SIED directorate and EDI function are currently transforming into a professional centre of expertise for our internal stakeholders. As the EDI team, we work collaboratively to increase the diversity of HMRC’s workforce, build a respectful and inclusive culture, and ensure colleagues from all backgrounds feel they belong and have a voice. We are a diverse, enthusiastic, and supportive team, and passionate about enabling all colleagues to perform to their full potential in support of achieving HMRC’s overall strategic objectives.

All EDI team members work across our portfolio to some extent; the primary focus of this role is to work with team colleagues and provide high-quality support on equality, diversity and inclusion projects. The work is varied and requires flexibility, but there are opportunities to develop specialist expertise and work autonomously to build experience and skills.

Responsibilities
• Supporting the EDI team to deliver the programme and large-scale projects, project managing smaller projects, and delivering project work to agreed quality and timeframes.

• Providing draft written content for EDI briefings, guidance and communications.

• Establishing trusted working relationships with stakeholders within the SIED directorate and CPO, as well as across the Department.

• Communicating effectively and inclusively HMRC’s strategic EDI approach to stakeholders across the Department, providing them updates on central EDI activities and peer support.

• Supporting the wider directorate, and working collaboratively on cross-cutting work that involves business change or changing priorities.

Essential Criteria

• Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion issues and practice in large and complex organisations.

• Ability to manage own workload, resolve competing demands and cope with changing priorities in a flexible and proactive way.

• Ability to write clear and accurate correspondence, including minutes, papers and reports, and to tailor written and oral communications to the audience.

• Ability to evaluate and interpret data and insight to inform decision making.

• Experience of building trusted relationships with stakeholders.

Desirable Criteria

• Ability to learn new issues quickly and the curiosity to develop new knowledge and skills.

• Experience of working in a public policy environment.

• Knowledge of project management tools.
