Job description
You will study towards a CIMA Finance Qualification via a Level 7 Apprenticeship.

The scheme duration is 4 years. After 2 years, and a successful assessment, you will be offered promotion to Senior Officer and you will receive a salary uplift. There are 4 placements in total, in your first year you will commence the first 3 x 1-year placements and then you will spend your final year on a development programme.

When you have successfully completed the programme, after the 4 years, you will be assessed for suitability to progress to Grade 7.

During your apprenticeship you will carry out work placements across a range of Finance teams, which will give you a unique experience of how finance works within HMRC, while also studying for your qualification.

Your work placements will ensure that you gain the variety and breadth of experience required to be recognised as an qualified accountant with a Level 7 qualification.

Possible areas of work your placements may include:

• Management Reporting - producing in-year financial management, adding value to numbers by providing insight and analysis.

• Financial Accounting and Reporting- delivering core financial controls, providing technical accounting advice and producing the annual report and accounts.

• Financial Operations - ensuring that financial processes run efficiently such as purchasing, income, cash management, expense, payroll and master data setup.

• Finance Business Partnering - long term planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and communication of financial data and reports, supporting investment appraisals and commercial activities.

• Risk management- working closely with other corporate functions and stakeholders to monitor and mitigate risk.

• Strategic Finance- provide strategic advice and analysis on financial impact, performance and risk to senior stakeholders and through this contribute to the strategic direction of the Department.

• Systems and Data - manage the financial systems controls and user support processes.

As an apprentice you are expected to demonstrate the following skills and over the course of the programme you will develop them even further:

• Having a genuine interest in developing a career in finance – you will be dedicated to learning and willing to put in the time and effort to build your knowledge and experience.

• Good communication skills - Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner. Adapt communications to suit different situations, individuals or teams including making best use of digital resources. Have respect for others and value different ideas and views.

• Building relationships - Build trusted and sustainable relationships with individuals and organisations. Consistently support individuals and collaborate to achieve results as part of a team.

• Good analytical skills – being able to produce accurate data and then analyse it to inform your decisions.

• Business insight- Influence the impact of business decisions on relevant and affected communities based on an appreciation of different organisations and the environments in which they operate.

• Teamwork and cooperation - a great collaborator, good at forming and managing relationships with key individuals in the organisation. The ability to work flexibly in a team and contribute to a supportive work environment.

• Adaptability and flexibility - you will work in challenging, fast-paced & exciting environments. These skills are vital to responding to changing priorities and situations in the workplace.

• Problem solving and decision making- evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence in order to make decisions effectively.

Essential Criteria

To apply you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• A Degree minimum 2.1 in any subject

• Existing Civil Servants will need a minimum of Level 4 Qualification or equivalent to apply

Plus:

• Applicants must complete and pass First Intuition eligibility assessment. You will be assessed against the Apprenticeship Standard.

• Applicants who are currently undertaking another apprenticeship or government funded qualification will not be considered.
