We currently have exciting opportunities available for Planning Officers to work with Nottingham Council. The role will be to deliver an excellent customer focused service in an efficient, effective and economic manner, whilst adhering to Corporate, Departmental and Government priorities.

Responsibilities:

* To ensure the delivery of planning projects are run efficiently and within agreed deadlines and costs and are focused on citizen outcomes, in accordance with a modern Development Management approach.

* To maintain clear performance measures and structures for the purpose of tracking team performance, highlighting any issues that arise.

* To consider and anticipate the impact of new government legislation/ policies on the delivery of the service, taking immediate action to make recommendations where necessary to prepare for the future.

* To prepare Committee and other reports as required including briefings for Councillors and Portfolio holders.

* To assist in securing new funding arrangements through researching and submitting funding bids/applications on behalf of the service.

* To deal with planning and other related applications from pre-application advice, receipt of application through to decision, including all necessary consultation and negotiations

* To deal with planning and associated appeals including the preparation of written statements in accordance with statutory timetables and, if necessary, to appear as a Witness on behalf of the City Council at Public Inquiries and Informal Hearings.

* To provide written and verbal advice to the general public, developers, applicants and their agents, interested groups and other City Council officers, on matters relating to the Planning Service.

* To prepare and review city-wide policies to achieve development, economic, social, environmental or corporate objectives. Work in connection with the preparation of the statutory Development Plan for Nottingham including assisting in the development of policies in particular topic areas, preparing Sustainability Appraisals, undertaking formal publicity and consultation with external bodies, assistance in taking development plan documents through examination and subsequent monitoring and policy advice.

* Provision of City Council input into other plans and strategies affecting Nottingham, and to represent the Department on working groups.

Location: Nottingham, Loxley House

Hourly rate: Negotiable depending on experience
