Pensions Administration Officer

Randstad Engineering are currently recruiting for Pensions Administration Officer to come and work for an industry leader in steel manufacturing based in Glasgow. The role is a full-time position, working Monday - Friday on a 36.5 hour week.

The initial salary is paying between £25,000 to £31,000 per annum.

Purpose of the role -

The job exists to ensure that all benefits and payments are calculated, processed and recorded efficiently and accurately in accordance with the Scheme Rules and current legislation and appropriate returns made to statutory bodies. To provide a high level of customer service responding quickly and effectively to sponsoring employers' and members' enquiries according to the office's service standards.

Accountabilities

contribute successfully to the overall success of the team in consistently meeting office standards of customer service;
accurately calculate, award and record on Profund administration system the range of benefits due to members in accordance with Trust Deed and Rules and Inland Revenue limits:

maintain deferred, and payroll membership records;
award the full range of retirement benefits;
calculate and make transfer payments on receipt of relevant documentation
process payment of monthly pensions and other allowances - taking into account appropriate tax codes - to beneficiaries of the British Steel Pension Scheme and Former Company Schemes for receipt by payees on a specified date;
process payments due in respect of the death of a deferred member/pensioner. Ensuring that the correct documentation has been received. Investigating all cases where a dependency issue may arise. Process the correct benefits - pension and/or lump sum - and ensuring that the correct details are recorded on the Profund/Propay administration system and reported to the Trustee Board;
process and record widow(er) pensions and child allowances - taking into account appropriate tax codes;
recover overpayments made to deceased pensioners;
prepare third party payments, implement requests for attachments to pension benefits, and re-instate payments on receipt of necessary documentation;
investigate reasons for credits returned by bank/building society and suspend payment if necessary;
maintain appropriate controls for audit purposes and providing management statistics;
ensure compliance with relevant legislation such as the Disclosure Regulations and General Data Protection Regulations;
answer members' enquiries promptly and efficiently in accordance with the office service standards.
Carry out complex pro forma calculations in line with historic Scheme Rules

The ideal candidate will have -

a working knowledge of UK pensions legislation
a detailed knowledge of the Profund and Propay administration systems is preferred;
a working knowledge of the Laws of Intestacy, Probate, Succession, Trust and inheritance tax and the differences in how they apply within the UK;
a knowledge of PAYE;
have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel packages.

The ideal candidate must -

be customer service focused;
be able to progress ad-hoc projects;
be committed to the principle of continuous development, recognising the need to keep pensions knowledge up to date;
demonstrate good written and spoken presentational skills.

It is desirable to -

have obtained a pensions qualification e.g. PMI, QPA/DPA or be actively working towards it or be willing to;
have at least 2 years final salary pensions experience.
