Permanent position. Excellent opportunity to join a leading North East Transport and Logistics company as a Fleet Engineer. With a salary of £40,000 to £50,000. This role is imperative to the safe and efficient running of the company's transport and distribution teams. Therefore, you will need to have extensive experience within this field of work with the following skills and qualifications:

Skills and experience required:

A background in mechanical engineering with HGV or PCV vehicle qualifications
Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence
LGV Category C+E licence preferred but not essential
The ability to lead and manage a small team
Previous fleet management or maintenance experience
Strong IT and analytical skills
The ability to build and manage relationships with suppliers
Strong knowledge of HGV MOT Testing Standards
Monday to Friday, 40hrs per week occasionally will be required to work out of hoursThis role will involve:

Managing a Fleet size: 50 heavy goods vehicles, 90 curtain-sided trailers, 12 vans and cars
Periodic Maintenance Inspection Checks, MOTs, unscheduled defects, and damage
Carrying out spot checks and fleet auditing on suppliers, our internal mechanics, other service agents and our own HGV/FLT drivers
Working closely with colleagues on maintenance scheduling and as part of established defecting and damage processes
Overseeing safety and compliance of our company cars and vans
Assisting with the administrative duties involved with operating a large equipment fleet
Managing vehicle returns at the end of lease/spot rental checking paperwork recording vehicle condition etc
Participating or lead fully in ongoing operational improvements, providing engineering support to identify and secure cost savings across the business
Vetting new suppliers and service agents. Setting up service contracts that include the required level of due diligence and performance monitoring
Management of vehicle taxation and road-toll accounts
There will need to be occasional out of normal business hours working to provide the necessary coverage of spot-checking and to deal with any unforeseen yet urgent issues
Thoroughly investigating any MOT failure or Vehicle Prohibition Notice, collating findings and recommendations reports
You will be responsible for the procurement of new equipment, refurbishment of existing equipment and the sale of equipment no longer required
You will be expected to demonstrate through comprehensive analysis the decision making behind fleet procurement, maintenance, and financing decisions. To operate the most cost-effective fleet when considering every significant cost associated with the operation and ownership of an assetIn return you will receive:

Basic Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 depending on skills and experience
Holidays: 25 days + 8 statutory days. Increases with the length of service
