We're currently seeking Peterborough based Biomedical Assistants to work within a high output diagnostics Mobile laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

The mobile laboratories advise and safely support the diagnosis of infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

By streamlining the testing process, we can provide rapid, on-site, government certified test results for the benefit of public health, individuals, and corporate entities.

Your responsibilities:

Perform basic laboratory analytical assays or techniques according to Standard Operating Procedures
Sample reception duties including receiving, sorting, labelling, bar coding and racking of samples on arrival
Load samples onto centrifuges, pre-analytical automation, or other sample preparation equipment.
File, archive and retrieve samples, dispatch samples to referral sites as appropriate
Perform general house-keeping duties including safe disposal of waste, general cleaning and tidying, stock management and stores duties.
Perform basic laboratory equipment cleaning and maintenance
Work flexibly and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required

Education:

Good standard of general education GCSE maths or English (or equivalent).Experience Desired :

Manual handling skills

In return:

As well as a competitive rate of pay of £12.82 per hour Days, £15.64 per hour Nights
Shift Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off - Day Shift - 8am-8pm / Night Shift - 8pm-8am

You'll receive comprehensive training on relevant lab procedures and equipment during induction. - this will be between 2-6 weeks Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30 based in Leicester. (expenses/hotels provided for training period)

WORKING CONDITIONS

The post holder will work generally in a laboratory environment and may be required to sit or stand at the bench for prolonged periods. It is expected that the role will involve light to moderate physical effort. The post holder will be exposed to potentially infectious pathological samples on a daily basis with occasional exposure to other risks e.g. chemical encountered in the laboratory.
