Location: Birmingham

Pay: Up to £15.93 per hour (DOE)

Office Angels are currently recruiting for an approachable, adaptable, and highly organised Student Welfare Officer to work for an established higher education provider based in Birmingham. In this job role, you will work with a diverse group of students and be responsible for providing day to day advice, support, guidance and information on personal welfare related issues at each stage of the learner pathway pre-entry, on-programme and exit. You will be aligned to the Student Support Services division and play a key part in ensuring a world-class experience for their students.

Role Responsibilities:

Providing pastoral care, information, guidance and advice to students; to include supporting students with emotional distress or hardship
Managing students welfare matters, reviewing support needs
Working with students on issues affecting or relating to their studies as individuals or in groups on issues related to or affecting their studies.
Acting as an advocate for students
Liaising with staff across the institution to develop programmes which will support the students personal issues
Providing advice, guidance and information to academic programme staff on supporting students to overcome personal barriers to learning.
Following up with students and taking appropriate action when advised to increase their chances of successful education completion
Offering support to students who are experiencing emotional or practical difficulties that are affecting their learning
Managing a case load of student welfare matters, reviewing support needs and logging student outcomes to include communicating with tutors and other central services
Providing an emergency service for students in immediate distress.
Organising and delivering engagement and retention-focused workshops and events, suitable and appropriate for domestic and international students.
Liaising with the Disability Support and Inclusion Service on issues related to individual students who have learning difficulties or disabilities.
Producing statistical records and termly and annual reports, as required.
Representing the service at internal and external meetings, as required including inductions, open days and within recruitment activities and other Well-being events.
Establishing networks with a range of local and national advisory bodies, support agencies and training providers, including those relating to international students Skills / Experience:

Experience of working within a welfare department in an educational environment
Advocacy and mediation with students
Experience of supporting care experienced individuals in an educational context
Experience working with international students (Desirable)
Experience of giving advice within an educational environment (Desirable)
Experience of working with vulnerable people (Desirable)
Experience of managing budgets (Desirable)
Working in accommodation in the public / private sector (Desirable)
Ability to identify and manage risk effectively
Good negotiation and listening skills
Proficient I.T skills, in particular MS Office and databases
An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to creating a safe learning environment
Ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Excellent interpersonal skills
