Accounts Assistant

Overview and purpose
To assist the finance department across all functions, working on both Accounts receivable Accounts payable and monthly accounts where required.
Reporting to
Group Financial Controller
Key Duties
Proactive chasing of outstanding accounts.
Maintaining customer credit limits, ensuring all accounts are maintained within these.
Reduction of debtors in line with targets and assisting with management of credit insurance policy
Building of internal relationships with colleagues across the group and building relationships externally with customers and maintaining these.
Manage relationship and audits of banks who fund the debtor ledgers
Posting of cash
Process Card payments from customers and to provide information and support for cash forecasting.
Opening of new accounts and reviewing of credit applications
Provide management cover for the Group Credit Control Manager as and when required
Review and action Sales Orders which are held and liaise with Sales Teams
Maintain complete purchase ledger process including placing orders and processing invoices.
Reconciliation of purchase ledgers to general accounts ledger and preparation of VAT returns and reconciliation to general ledger.
Processing of cash book payments to suppliers.
Processing of receipts in the cashbook and reconciliation to bank transfers from Credit Card Company.
Processing of fixed asset journals (depreciation) for monthly accounts and processing of standard journals for monthly accounts
Processing of transactions within the General ledger to final trial balance status.
Assist in process and analysis of daily expenses and preparation of the electronic cash book
Provide support to the Financial accountant/Group Credit Manager
Preparation of bank reconciliations in compliance with company timetables.
Support development of automatic expense processing.
Provide full analysis of petty cash and expenses to support the tax calculation for the auditors.
Person specification:
Experienced accounts person with a wide knowledge of all aspects of finance
Highly pro-active approach and strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
People management skills & relationship builder
Computer literature including Microsoft packages, minimum intermediate level Excel
