As an inclusive, forward thinking business, we take pride in our approach to Health and Safety across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Health and Safety Manager to join our Operations Team, supporting our Telford & Dudley site.
 
Health and Safety Managers use their knowledge and skills to achieve full compliance and promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace with the goal of achieving a safer working environment for all employees, contractors and visitors.
 
Purpose of the role:
The key purpose is to support the Senior Management Team to work proactively with Managers and Operatives to develop and maintain a first-class Health and Safety Management System that promotes a culture of safe working practices across Avara Foods. The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that employers and employees comply with current Health and Safety legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision within their area of responsibility.
 
Your key responsibilities will include:
·Promotion of a positive and engaging H&S culture
·Annual co-ordination of generic and specific risk assessments, ensuring accurate completion and recording of all findings and non-conformances
·Through the agreed priority rating develop and regularly review the non-conformance corrective action plan for site, working with relevant managers and employees to generate solutions to eliminate/reduce business risk
·Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, and manager and colleagues are aware of their responsibilities
·Support relevant management teams to ensure the safe installation of equipment
·Establish a full programme of documented Health& Safety inspections, audits and checks
·Working with HR, liaise with Occupational Health to monitor trends and drive actions
·Working together across site H&S, HR and Management teams to consistently develop relevant SOP’s, ensuring competency across site
·Conduct reviews of all accidents taking place at site, ensuring learnings and findings are shared with key stakeholders
·Reviewing suitability and implementation of corrective action plans
·Work with third parties to ensure effective management of insurance related queries and claims
·Ensure that folders are compiled for each accident reported and include all the relevant details and any other information that may help us to successfully defend any liability claim
·To assist in the development and delivery of Health and Safety Training where required
·Conduct relevant Occupational Health and Safety related surveys e.g. noise, dust, lighting, exposure to chemical substances and makes associated recommendations
·Assisting HR/Training dept with Health and Safety related training completed across the site/division based on the required schedule
·Ensure that specific Health & Safety incentives that are introduced are managed and measured to ascertain effectiveness
·Ensure you remain up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
·Support and coach management with investigating the causes of accidents
·Keeping records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements
 
What we are looking for:
·NEBOSH Qualification
·Experience and Knowledge of Health and Safety Management / Systems and behavioural safety and change management
·Experience and knowledge of online systems
·Full UK driving license
·Experience of working with regulators such as the HSE
·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
·Very strong time management and organisational skills with high attention to detail
·Able to take responsibility and be accountable for all actions and responsibilities falling under their remit, using common sense and taking initiative as required
·Clearly objective driven, able to monitor progression of tasks and coach others were required to aid completion
