We're currently seeking Plymouth based Sample Management Supervisors to work within a high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

As well as playing a vital role in supporting society's return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

You will manage a team of up to 12 operatives safely handling COVID19 samples prior to the distribution of them to the laboratories. Her/His role is to perform physical handling of goods with care and precision. The position is key to ensuring the laboratory operates smoothly.

This opportunity for Sample Management Supervisors requires individuals with the right mindset to support the smooth running of the laboratory.

Your responsibilities:

Supervise and perform the receipt of materials, patient samples, lab supplies etc. daily
Checking and processing received items in line with appropriate quality procedures (physical / quantity check and paperwork verification)
Maintaining stock accuracy at all times through timely system maintenance such as participation in physical counting/cycle counting and routine disposal program
Control site waste in regard to stream, recycling, chemical, gas and general waste
Work closely with onsite stores personnel, coordinating deliveries in line with required predetermined stock holdings
Preparing and shipping materials in line with site requirements and in accordance with relevant shipping SOP documentation (permits / licenses) and coordination with any specialist shipping organisations
Equipment/area monitoring/maintenance that is under the responsibility of the department
Supporting on-site movement of sample/material via internal transportation as directed
Perform other tasks and activities, as needed, to support the laboratory, suppliers, Planning Team, and our Internal and External Partners.

This role requires the following skills:

Ability to work in a wide range of temperatures including cold storage up to -20C
Reach above/below the shoulder, bend at the knees and waist
Lift up to 25 lbs
Clinical and research lab environment; exposure to blood borne pathogens; must wear protective lab gear including lab coat, gloves and completely closed footwear
Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities, and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately.
Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.
Capability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, in English
Good time management and prioritisation skills to balance shifting priorities
Demonstrate strong supervisor qualities

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 2 years' experience in customer order / in bound / out bound / warehouse processes
Operation of material handling equipment (e.g. hand truck, pallet jack, etc.)
Ability in checking and processing received items in line with appropriate quality procedures (physical / quantity check and paperwork verification)
Experience working with an ERP system, especially Warehouse Management System (WMS) module
Operational working knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Outlook

Desirable

Experience in work for a Health Care industry and handling / managing diagnostic, biopharma and life sciences commodities will be an advantage

In return:

Pay rate of days £17.28 and Nights £20.74, paid weekly.

This role works on a shift pattern of 8am-8pm days and 8pm-8am nights. With 4 days on 4 days off. This will change monthly. Therefore, a month of days and a month of nights.
