Job purpose:

As one of our Central Planning Leads you will work out of our Flagship Rugby Hub where you will work cross-functionally with the wider Planning function as well as Corporate and Operational stakeholders. You will review existing and future delivery plans to improve and optimise the efficiency of the Hermes network as well as leading a team of Planning Analysts, who with your support, will create and distribute forecasts and plans across the Hermes Network of Hubs, Depots whilst being mindful of our self-employed Courier capacity.

You will have a creative initiative to design and deliver new reports and tools to support an ever-changing business. You will need to engage with all areas of the business and managers across the sites, to ensure we are producing achievable plans.

About the Role:

Our Central Planning Lead is a varied role where you will manage your own projects and those assigned to you by your Line Manager, this might include producing daily and weekly forecasting of the full network and ensuring all plans produced daily are achievable by discussing them with your stakeholders. You must be able to design an operational recovery/improvement plan – working with the Operations teams to mobilise and implement the recovery by having a thorough understanding of end-to-end networks and having the ability to analyse large amounts on complex data from multiple sources to identify areas of the operation where service has been or could be compromised, taking a proactive approach wherever possible to improve delivery.

Reporting in to our Planning & Service Manager as Central Planning Lead you will take on have operational and line leadership responsibilities for your team of Planning Analysts. Because Hermes is a 24/7 operation, this role DOES include some WEEKEND working, roughly one weekend in three but this does flex to business need. You will work five days out of seven so days off in the week will be taken after working a weekend.

You will play a key role in the creation of the annual Peak Network plans, ensuring capacity and cost efficiency is assured and collate for wider area supporting direct reports to ensure consistency.

Experience/Qualifications:

VBA & SQL desirable
Proficient in a suite of Microsoft Office Packages including Excel
Understanding of a full end-to-end network
Excellent IT knowledge and MI systems
Experience of managing operational compliance
Experience of leading a team of Planners
Excellent data interpretation and analytical capabilities
Confident communicator and able to build strong relationships at easeResponsibilities:

Managing a team of Analyst planners 7 days a week across 2 shifts (requirement to work 1 in 3 weekends)
Escalating findings to the appropriate operational area, taking responsibility to drive through resolutions and not accepting inactivity
To influence senior Band A stakeholders with facts and corrective actions daily
Managing second line team escalations where service is not appropriate
Devising and reviewing data analysis processes to develop the team’s approach to ensure maximum value to forecasting and service of the network
Historical trend analysis to identify root cause and implement improvement actions
Ability to develop new reports, tools and models using live data to improve forecasting and service across the network, ensuring they remain topical and relevant
Hosting daily network conference calls, questioning and challenging service performance
