IT Security Engineer

Avara has 10 data centres distributed across 8 UK locations running on modern Server & Network architecture with 20+ WAN connected sites and 2000+ users. Currently, a mixture of on premise and Cloud based services support the business functions from Finance through to our Factory Operations teams 24/7.

Purpose of the role:
 
As the IT Security Engineer you will be the Technical Lead for Cyber Security. As a member of the IT infrastructure team, you will lead IT Security awareness campaigns, promoting best practice around Cyber Security and develop high quality support documentation. 
 
You will focus on identifying gaps in the current IT Security fabric and propose enhancements and work with the team to implement approved solutions. 
 
Your key responsibilities will include:

Ensure that all new or existing Security technologies are implemented and maintained following vendor recommendations and industry best practice 
Contribute to an information security risk register and assist with internal and external information security audits 
Monitor for attacks, intrusions and unusual, unauthorised or illegal activity within the Avara IT estate 
Investigate security alerts and work with support teams to increase security skills within IT
Manage the remediation of any security non-conformance 
Keep up to date with industry trends around IT SecurityWhat we are looking for:

A passion for Cyber Security, with a continuous improvement mentality and an eagerness to learn the latest technologies & trends in the IT Security domain
Excellent IT skills, including knowledge of computer networks, enterprise storage, virtualisation technologies and cloud computing
Experience of contributing to an IT Risk Register 
Good working knowledge of various security technologies such as firewalls, anti-virus, web security, email filtering, intrusion prevention technologies and vulnerability scanners.
Experience of working in a SOC or SIEM environment is advantageous.  It is desirable but not essential that you have:

Qualifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Security +, Cisco CCNP
