My client specialise in the transport and disposal of all types of hazardous and non hazardous waste through their specialist ongoing cleaning contracts on a national basis across the UK. Originally a small family owned business, this company have gone from strength to strength and now employ over 500 members of staff in 28 different sites across the UK.
Role
A very unusual and unique position has arisen within the position for a General Maintenance / Cleaning Operative.
This is no ordinary position! .... Intrigued? ... Read on...!
On a day to day basis you will be based at the UK Severn Bridge which connects South Gloucestershire in England to Mommouthshire in South Wales. Built in 1961 the Severn bridge is 136 metres tall and 1600m long.
You can live in Wales or England but you must be able to easily commute to the Severn Bridge area 5 days a week where parking will be available for you.
A company vehicle is provided for your use when travelling across the bridge throughout the working day.
Your role will involve reporting to the Bridge Foreman and include all aspects of cleaning and maintaining the bridge!
You will be responsible for working both beneath the bridge clearing any debris, rubbish, leaves etc using the built in access available. This will include working on a rigging to access the more difficult areas. (All training will be provided)
You will also need a very strong Head for Heights as not only will you work below the bridge but you will also work cleaning the suspension cables above the roadway. This means will you will working up to 136 metres above sea level! - This is an amazing and unique opportunity but certainly not for the faint hearted!
The role will also involve cleaning of the staff area underneath the bridge, removal of all waste ready for collection, painting the bridge and some work on a Counter balance Forklift.
Initial interviews will take place at the site of the Severn Bridge so candidates can get a better understanding of the requirements, the scope of works/duties and a good feeling for the day to day working environment.
Whilst you will have contact with other specialist engineers at the location you will spend a lot of your working day working alone and you must therefore be happy with this.
Requirements
Ideally you will have a Counter Balance Forklift Licence
You must hold a Driving Licence with categories B and E
Strong head for heights
Ability to work alone
Happy to work in all weathers outside
Not be afraid to "get your hands dirty"
