Search Consultancy is working to recruit a Lead Occupational Therapist for a specialist education college for students aged 16 to 25 with learning difficulties, disabilities, complex health needs and autism in Manchester.

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Lead Occupational Therapy role is to guide and lead the occupational therapy team at the College to ensure delivery of high quality Occupational Therapy to students. This will take place through person centred assessment of therapeutic and equipment needs of students and provision of regular relevant training to the teaching and support staff team.
This role will include line management and supervision of the occupational therapy team which comprises of 3 practitioners. The post holder will ensure the OT team have up to date relevant training to meet the needs of the service and will enable the service to continue to grow and develop.
Safeguarding children and vulnerable people is a priority for all employees.

NATURE OF THE POST:

The College educates a broad range of young people 16-25 years with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and /or autism. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Assistive Technology and Positive Behaviour Support are integral to facilitating students' learning and removing barriers to learning. The college has good specialist facilities including a Hydrotherapy pool, sensory areas, Rebound therapy and Sensory Integration room but much of the impact of the therapy team comes from working closely with other staff and ensuring that where students need input from one or more therapists, they work closely with tutors and support staff so that these interventions are embedded within all aspects of the college's delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* To be an excellent practitioner
* Management and development of Occupational Therapy services and team with the support of the Senior Leadership Team
* To support Occupation Therapy team to develop Occupational Therapy plans in line with the educational and progression goals of students
* To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and collaborate with all colleagues at Bridge College.
* Provision of advice and/or training for students, staff, professionals and families
* To support the Occupational Therapy team to complete assessments of students and other service users' needs and production of associated reports and guidelines
* To oversee the contribution of the Occupational Therapy team to student and other service users' reviews
* Drafting and checking of policy, procedural and protocol documents
* Adherence to and oversight of others' adherence to current professional standards in OT
* Maintenance and update of own CPD and ensuring the compliance of members of the OT team alongside the undertaking of activities required to maintain license to practice of self and others in team
* Appraisal and Supervision of other members of the OT team
* Other duties within professional code of conduct that may be considered appropriate from time to time by the Principal
* Liaison with parents, families and carers, outside agencies and other professionals
