Software Engineer
£40,000 - £45,000
Remote (With access to London and the South West)
This is a fantastic opportunity for a software engineer to join a leading international transportation software business, focussed specifically on their UK (London and the South West) function. In this role you will be responsible for the analysis, diagnosis, repair and routine maintenance of production simulators remotely, and occasionally on customer's sites as directed by the Project Manager.
Ideal for someone with an interest in or ideally experience in transportation (Train) or wider engineering, and who is open to occasionally visiting client sites both in the South of the UK and internationally.
A degree in IT or Engineering is desired.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Integrate and implement strategies and undertake support activities as part of an engineering project team.
Provide assistance and supervision to graduate and junior staff.
Review the work of staff to ensure accuracy and compliance with completion criteria.
Budgeting and timeframe responsibilities.
Customer interaction to clarify technical issues as delegated by the Support Manager / Senior Support Engineer.
Professional Competencies:
Hands on experience in a Windows support environment including PC hardware, device drivers, networking, software installation and scripting.
Experience with the maintenance and support of PLC's hardware and software.
Working knowledge of databases & SQL, XML, IP Networks, Subnets and VPN's.
Hands on experience with Serial Interfaces; RS232/422/485, Ethernet and current loop.
Demonstrated excellent customer management and ability to work independently on site under pressure.
Experience with software development C++ or Java, configuration management s/w such as Subversion or CVS, defect tracking tools such as JIRA and JIRA Service Desk highly desirable
Experience with wiring harness design, build and debug highly desirable
Experience in the installation of complex systems and cabling highly desirable
Experience with remote software maintenance highly desirable
