Job Description

Role Title:  Communications and Fundraising Assistant

Reports to:  Marketing & Fundraising Director

This is an exciting position to work with the Fundraising Director to communicate the charitable work of Celtic Harmony and raise money & develop relationships with grant funders, trusts, corporates and major donors.

If you are looking to join a growing charity with exciting opportunities and have a ‘can-do’ attitude, then this is your chance to make a real difference. The post holder will have communication and bid writing skills and will be able to work to deadlines to meet both short-term and longer-term targets, as part of the fundraising strategy.

An award winning charity, have been providing hands-on cultural heritage education of ancient Britain for almost twenty years. In that time we have increased understanding of the natural world and creating a more sustainable way of life for future generations.

We achieve this through the educational experience, which enables people of all ages to step into Ancient Britain and experience life from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, via a programme of multi-sensory creative activities at the Camp, set in acres of English countryside. Our innovative programmes are designed particularly for special needs schools and disadvantaged adults and families.

Main Duties:

  1. Liaise with Corporates to develop relationships for a portfolio of team building programmes and/or sponsorship through telephone and written communication.
  2. Organise events to develop relationships with corporate donors and other stakeholders such as subject coordinators.
  3. Write applications to lottery and other grant funders.
  4. Research charitable trusts and foundations to support the fundraising Strategy.
  5. Make funding applications to charitable trusts and foundations.
  6. Nurture long term relationships through effective stewardship of supporters.
  7. Coordinate charity communications: draft press releases and liaise with press contacts and write the charity newsletter.
  8. Monitor and evaluate fundraising activity to agreed templates, providing reports and recommendations.
  9. Liaise with Heritage Director in regard to fundraising income administration and budgets to ensure all activity is managed appropriately.

Qualifications, experience & behaviours required for this role:


Solid demonstrable experience and knowledge in fundraising - Essential

Experience of writing funding applications for trusts / lottery / corporate. - Essential

Experience of communicating with funders and stakeholders face to face and/or in writing - Essential

Experience of working with senior stakeholders - Desirable

Education /Qualification

Professional qualification degree in a related subject and 2 years experience Or 3 years experience in a similar role. - Essential


Strong organisational and planning skills with ability to meet tight deadlines and budgets - Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Essential

The ability to work on multiple projects at one time - Essential

Good research and analytical skills- Essential

This role profile is not exhaustive; it will be subject to periodic review and may be amended to meet the changing needs of the charity. The post holder will be expected to participate in this process and we would aim to reach agreement to the changes.

General Terms and Condition of Employment

Contract: Permanent.

Duties: As outlined in job description

Salary: £22,000 per annum full time equivalent in arrears by BACS

Hours : 37.5 hours per week Monday- Friday and some weekends, 9am to 5.30pm and 1 hour unpaid lunch.

Holidays : 28 days pro rata (inc. bank holidays)

Sickness: Statutory Sick Pay
