The Role

The Quantity Surveyor will carry out the day to day pre and post contractual & commercial management on a portfolio of contracts as part of a commercial team to the value of £65m pa. The overall role of the Quantity Surveyor is to support the Senior Quantity Surveyor and the Commercial Team in their role of maximising commercial value, reducing risk to the business and assist with the delivery of all specific business outputs and targets.

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management across construction contract activities within the Replacement Workstreams to ensure contract engagements are in line with Business & Contract Strategies and policies both pre and post contract award across the following work streams;

Replacement (Including replacement, diversions, fuel poverty, connections, reinforcements) - Total spend - £65m/annum

The main responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor are;

  • The preparation and issuing of tender documentation for the tendering process under the several delivery frameworks and design framework.
  • The Preparation of Budgets & Forecasts and accurate financial reporting of performance, including monthly accruals for projects under their control.
  • Employ the effective financial and commercial controls that are in place and that they comply with contract terms and NGN policy and procedures
  • Promote the effective Commercial Value Management of work performed and valuations for payments
  • Preparing and issuing interim and final account statements for completed contracts.
  • Support the Risk Assessment and Management controls are appropriate and effectively applied to minimise commercial and financial risk to the business.
  • Assist with Dispute Resolution of commercial issues.
  • Agree/Assess valuation and validity of Variations and Compensation Events and payments in accordance with the contract terms ensuring
  • Compliance with NGN governance and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Offer commercial advise to Business Operation Leads to improve commercial viability of new projects
  • Assist the Operational staff (including site managers) in understanding contract obligations and commercial impacts
  • Support in ensuring contractual obligations are met

Skills and Experience

  • Good commercial awareness and acumen
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good negotiating skills
  • Good working knowledge of NEC3 contracts.
  • Knowledge of the Utilities sector and commercial arrangements used to engage and develop supply chain partners and contractors.
  • Experience of managing large, medium and small contractors, designers and consultants.
  • Experience of a similar role and level
  • Ability to operate with personal integrity and trust

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Must be educated to Degree Level or relevant equivalent
  • Working towards of RICS membership desirable
  • Must have full UK Driving Licence
