Job Purpose

This post has operational responsibility for Counselling and Therapy services delivered by Sheffield Mind ensuring that our counselling services are high quality, safe and effective. The post holder manages the operational side of Counselling and Therapy services and in order to do so, works closely with the Counselling and Therapy Services Clinical Manager.


Service delivery and management:

  1. Ensure the effective day-to-day management of the Counselling & Therapy service in order to provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive psychotherapy assessment and treatment service.
  2. Oversee induction and training opportunities for therapists.
  3. Contribute to the development of the team, for example through meetings, email bulletins etc.
  4. Monitor and manage the waiting list and waiting times for therapy in collaboration with the Clinical Manager (and Head of Operations where appropriate).
  5. Operate within agreed principles, practice and ethical standards as set out in Sheffield Mind's policies and guidelines.
  6. Provide advice to the Head of Operations on Sheffield Mind's current and potential position in relation to service use, waiting lists, monitoring and evaluation.
  7. Identify areas of concern and work with colleagues to find and apply solutions to any issues raised regarding service delivery.
  8. Demonstrate a strong commitment to co-producing services with participants and stakeholders

Monitoring and Evaluation

  1. Ensure the effective monitoring of Counselling & Therapy services, developing and improving existing systems.
  2. Contribute to the development and maintenance of systems that identify and measure service user outcomes and service user feedback.
  3. Work with the Clinical Manager and the senior management team to evaluate the effectiveness of Counselling & Therapy services.
  4. Provide regular monitoring reports for the senior management team, Board of Trustees and external funders.
  5. Oversee the work of the C&T administrator to monitor and record service user attendance and staff absence.

Service Development

  1. With the Clinical Manager, assist in developing Counselling & Therapy services. This will involve identifying niches in the market and development opportunities.
  2. Identify opportunities for promotion and co-production and work with colleagues to meet these service objectives
  3. Liaise with colleagues to ensure that online information about C & T services is accurate and updated promptly

Other tasks

  1. Represent Counselling and Therapy Services at external meetings.
  2. Actively promote and ensure good equal opportunities practice and work in an anti-oppressive manner.
  3. Undertake monthly supervision with line manager and provide regular supervision and appraisal to the C & T Administrator.
  4. Undertake training as identified in the personal development plan.
  5. Undertake any other tasks that can be reasonably expected that are within the scope and spirit of the job.
