The Weller Centre is a local community centre, it was remodelled, substantially rebuilt and re-opened two years ago. The management of the centre is a joint venture between The Earley Charity and Reading Borough Council. The activities at the Centre cover youth, wellbeing, the outdoors and employment programmes in an area with high levels of social deprivation.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Centre Facilities Manager

The role

Key responsibilities are to;

  • Support the governance of the building by monitoring and recording income and expenditure in relation to the hire of our facilities, building maintenance and payment of tutors and event organisers
  • Facilitate the effective running of the Centre
  • Oversee and improve the office and financial systems of the Centre
  • Manage Centre bookings and all associated administration
  • Act as a key point of interaction between users, staff, hirers, stakeholders and the public
  • Responsible for ensuring the Centre is safe, clean and operational at all times
  • Oversee the caretaker and cleaning staff
  • Ensure the building and gardens are maintained to high standards and cyclical repairs are carried out
  • Ensure the Centre and facilities are stocked and serviced for all events
  • Oversee the health and safety standards across the building, take remedial action as necessary and conduct ongoing checks and risk assessments as required

The person

The ideal candidate will have strong organisation skills, be a great communicator (verbal and written) and possess excellent interpersonal skills as you will be interacting with a wide cross section of people. 

You must be a self-starter, able to manage your own workload and have the ability to achieve through a team.  You must be a team player, keep calm under pressure, be empathetic and customer focused and be able to deliver on their commitments to all Centre users. 

Education/Skills

Degree Educated or equivalent (all disciplines considered but facilities management would be ideal)

First Aid and Fire Marshal experience is desirable but training will be provided.

Proficient in MS Office and specialist financial software (Xero).

Basic understanding of book-keeping.

Experience

Demonstrable experience of office, finance and facilities management.

The Centre Facilities Manager will be required to work some evenings and weekends so flexibility is required.
