Job Summary

As part of a large acquisition and re-organisation a new role has been created for Director of Sales & Marketing – Automotive Engineered Systems.  The Director of Sales & Marketing will ideally have experience of working within the automotive industry and be educated in a sales and marketing discipline or equivalent with an appropriate qualification.  This is an opportunity to work closely with the CEO of Engineered Systems.  You will have overall UK and European responsibility and accountability for new sales & Marketing.  This role will involve frequent UK and European travel with occasional global travel when required.

Job Description

Reporting into the CEO for Engineered Systems and based in Coventry or Newton Aycliffe the Director of Sales & Marketing will be responsible for the delivery of:

Strategy and Development

  • Overall responsibility for new sales and marketing activities across the business
  • Create and implement best practice sales and marketing vision, strategy and policies to aid and improve business performance
  • Ensure that sales and marketing strategies are in place to meet business objectives.  Ensure quality and delivery targets are met which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and act to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process through sales pipeline

General and Task Management

  • Setting new business revenue targets for the company and setting key performance indicators
  • Meeting with the commercial team on a monthly basis to assess company performance against KPI’s
  • Working in partnership with the marketing company to develop and execute effective marketing solutions to promote the business profile
  • Presenting new business sales actions and pipeline results to key stakeholders on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Speaking at conferences and events about the company’s products and services
  • Devising and implementing new business sales and marketing strategies across the company and monitoring effectiveness
  • Keeping a close eye on the due diligence within the market place on sales and market competition and utilising ideas where appropriate
  • Working closely with the commercial team in order to secure large accounts
  • Implementing a variety of new business initiatives to drive sales
  • Working with key stakeholders on budgeting and planning
  • Negotiating agreements for new large contracts with customers and ensuring commerciality
  • Working with the commercial team implementing an effective new business sales pipeline and support tracking process
  • Utilising the CRM and ensuring it is being used effectively and provides a competitive advantage
  • Implementing best practice in sales techniques
  • Researching potential target industries and customers
  • Create and deliver consultative sales presentations using industry knowledge, market trends
  • Drive external and internal market knowledge and insights
  • Proactive engagement with industry committees and conferences
  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of sales and marketing activities
  • Support the Commercial team with project management to cross functional activity required for project execution
  • Report on sales and marketing activities on a regular basis to the CEO, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators

People Management

  • Provide leadership to departments under control and coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions
  • Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
  • Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
  • Responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
  • Provide leadership, coordination and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles
  • Complete regular performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues and procedures as appropriate
  • Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achievement of overall business objectives. Work with the sales and marketing team to translate site strategy into specific annual performance goals and departmental objectives. including KPIs, and to track them

Financial Budget and Control

  • Work with the Director of Commercial to implement annual sales and marketing budget and forecasts
  • Support the budget from identification to completion of projects
  • Input and hold responsibility for new sales pipeline and marketing budgets
