Brantwood Specialist School
Brantwood Specialist School is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ruskin Mill Trust and will offer a unique, holistic and student-centred approach to the education and care of 7-19 year olds, specialising in students who are on the Autistic spectrum and who have not succeeded in mainstream provision. The school will provide an educational experience based on the National and Steiner Waldorf Curriculum, embedding the practical skills therapeutic educational curriculum with accredited qualifications. Applications are invited for the following post, based at Brantwood Specialist School, Sheffield.
TEACHER, Greenwood Work
Term time contract – 16 hours a week, 40 weeks a year
Qualified rate, points 1-6: £6,342.40 - £9,939.20 per annum, starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
Unqualified rate, points 1-6: £8,576 - £12,166.40 per annum, starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
The key duties of this role will include:
- To teach the students how to produce Greenwood items that is practical and meaningful. (The work will be completed in the open air at our site in Eyam).
- To deliver sessions to students based on the natural elements of the environment and forestry.
- Ensuring students engage in learning and achieve: through careful planning of the structure, methodology and delivery of the learning experience.
- Applying knowledge about learning and the modes of learning to plan and deliver aspects of the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum within the assessment framework of the National Curriculum in addition to their subject area.
- Ensuring students develop basic skills in numeracy, literacy and in the Core Learning Skills, together with social skills, and to provide opportunities for students to practice and develop these skills.
- Assessing the progress of students in accordance with the School’s assessment schedule and Curriculum Policy.
To undertake this position successfully you will have:
- Experience of working with Greenwood and the ability to produce useful items that the students can use.
- A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. If not held the successful candidate must be willing to work towards one.
- Experience of delivering the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum would be desired
- Knowledge of specialist education
- Experience of working with children with learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour many of who are on the Autistic spectrum.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A driving licence is desirable
All teachers at Brantwood Specialist School will be required to attend the Ruskin Mill Trust Teacher Development Course – some of these sessions are held at weekends and in school holiday periods.
