HR Adviser (Employee Relations) – 12 Months Fixed Term

Salary: Grade 5, £31,401-£36,153 per annum

37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Location – Service Headquarters, Calcot, Reading

Excellent annual leave of 27 days plus Public Holidays per annum, flexible working hours and onsite gym facilities.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is working hard to ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards for our community, staff and partners. We are currently undergoing high levels of organisational change and we are seeking a high calibre HR professional to support the organisation in a generalist HR role.

Main Duties (See Job Description for full details)  

  • Responsible for researching and implementing change to policy and procedure as a result of legislation and best practice.
  • Provides advice and guidance on all aspects of an employee’s employment from recruitment through to resignations and retirements. In addition to advising on discipline, grievance and performance management issues and acts as an adviser at Hearings and case review meetings as appropriate.
  • Researches and implements initiatives to support the employment and retention of RBFRS staff by considering staff incentives, benefits and discount schemes, flexible working and other family friendly strategies.
  • Participate in the sickness absence working party to ensure continued proactive interventions in absence management including identification of emerging patterns and associated remedial actions and contribute to the Health Safety and Wellbeing Strategy and Action plan.
  • To work in consultation with Occupational Health professionals and service managers in relation to case management and case conference processes for the effective management of absence, return to work and ill health retirement and termination processes.

The ideal candidate will combine generalist HR experience with previous involvement in policy formulation and supporting managers with a range of HR related case work.This post will be an ideal career move for an ambitious HR Adviser looking to extend their portfolio of experience. The successful candidate will be someone with excellent communication skills and a passion for service improvement with high level logical reasoning powers including investigative skills.   The ability to work both independently and as a team player is a must.

You will hold an HR qualification and ideally be level 5 CIPD qualified or well on the way to towards achieving this qualification and be a member of CIPD. HR experience in case work and policy development is a must.
