Job Details

We are looking for a motivated individual able to work to their own initiative as well as part of a team to join us and develop this project into an effective community based asset.  Candidates should possess a can-do attitude and the skills and experience to work in a sensitive yet effective way with recently bereaved clients.

This service is funded to run until the end of March 2021.

Job Purpose

To provide emotional support within a bereaved client’s home and within the community. To enable them to develop emotional resilience in order to support independent living and increase social activity.

The role may also involve supporting clients to complete essential tasks relating to the death of a partner/companion.  For example, this could be relating to attending appointments with banks or in changing details with utility companies.

Alongside 1-to-1 support, the Ripple Effect will also develop group sessions for clients to access on a long term basis.  This will act as both an ongoing support as well as a means of encouraging clients to take an active role in their community by accessing local facilities and wider community resources, in the spirit of social inclusion.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe space for clients to talk about their feelings following their bereavement with an ability to reflect and respond appropriately.
  • Ensure that clients are able to maintain a balance between maintaining a connection with their loss as well as to be able to engage with life moving forward.
  • Signpost and bridge clients into appropriate longer term emotional support if necessary.
  • To provide practical support and advice to recently bereaved people to enable them to navigate everyday challenges in order to promote wellbeing and prevent isolation and loneliness.
  • To motivate individuals to help them manage their lives to achieve their maximum potential.
  • To encourage a forward thinking mind-set, to promote clients to continue to ‘live’ their lives whilst not diminishing their memories of their love one.
  • To encourage and promote positive mental and physical health through engagement in social activities and healthy lifestyle.
  • To ensure that the project is delivered in a client-focused manner with coproduction at its heart.
  • To work independently whilst based within the local community and as a team both as part of the Ripple Effect team and the wider Sheffield Mind ‘family’.
  • To understand, explain and promote Sheffield Mind’s services: be the public face of Sheffield Mind.
  • To undertake any other tasks that can be reasonably expected that are within the scope and spirit of the job.
