The Ruskin Mill Trust Group operates five colleges and associated residential provision in Birmingham, Horsley (Gloucestershire), Pembrokeshire, Sheffield, and Stourbridge and an associated site in Darlington, as well as an independent specialist schools in Sheffield and Stourbridge. We provide innovative and experiential education for children, young people and adults with special learning needs, developed out of the inspiration of Rudolf Steiner, William Morris and John Ruskin.
Applications are invited for the following post that will be based at Freeman College based in Sheffield.
Occupational Therapist – Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE)
8 hours Per Week, 37 weeks per year
Grade 11: 12 Payable salary is £5,283.60 - £6,310.72 per annum,
which is pro rata the full time equivalent of £32,548.00 to £38,883
The purpose of this role is:
To advise and train school staff on the use of Ruskin Mill’s unique method of Practical Skills Therapeutic (PSTE) and the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum as interventions to meet the students’ sensory and self-regulation needs as identified in the EHC plan.
- To deliver individual or group interventions as identified in the EHC plan using the outdoors, natural materials and the natural environment and nature.
- To validate and document student progress by being immersed in PSTE and the Steiner Curriculum utilising their expertise in sensory profiles and sensory integration.
You will be working with children, young people and vulnerable adults with autistic spectrum disorders, learning disabilities and difficulties associated with developmental delay and, in collaboration with the other therapists, communicating findings to a diverse range of Ruskin Mill Trust staff and external bodies. This will include record keeping using the college’s IT system, data collection and analysis and will include the delivery of staff training.
You will be qualified to at least a degree level in Occupational Therapy, be registered with a professional therapeutic body such as the HCPC and you will have experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and/ or learning disabilities and have knowledge of specialist education.
A flexible and professional approach to work is required.
