NGN has an exciting opportunity to join our Asset Risk Management department, based in Leeds on a 2-year fixed-term contract.

The Opportunity:

The Asset Integrity team are the custodians of our assets; with over 2,500 above ground assets ranging from offtakes to district governors and 37,000km of pipelines including 1,200km of high pressure pipelines to oversee. It's a role where variety is assured, along with enjoying a wide range of responsibilities.

The post-holder will have a major influence on the work undertaken on assets and will use their effective communication skills to maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. A particular focus will be given to the delivery of new biomethane connections and their ongoing compliance and assurance.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance:

  • Support the Integrity Engineers in ensuring full compliance with all statutory regulations and legislation on an ongoing basis (including NGN's own standards and policies).
  • Act as point of contact for compliance queries, assessing additions or changes to existing legislation and make recommendations with regard to their impact on Network policies and activities.
  • Liaise with Operations staff to resolve technical issues.
  • Support Biomethane customers with delivery of their programmes acting as auditor providing support to ensure milestones are met.
  • Carry out site audits of bio methane projects and progress resultant actions through management of the audit database through to completion.
  • Manage and update asset databases.
  • Audits of assets and validation of systems on site.

Strategy:

  • Understand and interpret the condition of the companies' assets to contribute to the development of strategies that optimise asset investment and capital project delivery.
  • Effectively manage risk to ensure the long-term reliability of NGN assets.
  • Liaise with NGN's delivery teams and other stakeholders to ensure Asset upgrade programmes are compliant with requirements.
  • Support the Innovative Funding process by identification of potential projects and budget management.

Policy and regulation

  • Review, assess and update engineering documents.
  • Identify gaps in compliance documentation and implement changes where necessary.
  • Represent the Network on Industry Workgroups that influence Policy decisions alongside external bodies such as OFGEM (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets), UKOPA (United Kingdom Onshore Pipeline Operators' Association) ENA (energy Networks Association) and IGEM (Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers).
  • Provide data, prepare reports and compile procedures to facilitate regulatory reporting aligned to NGN Outputs.
  • Manage and provide asset data to deliver Safety and Compliance across the Network.

About You:

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to a HNC or HND, preferably in a technical discipline
  • Logical thinker, with excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proactive attitude; strong team player, whilst also having the ability to work on their own initiative
  • Excellent team working, customer orientation and communication skills covering verbal, written and numerical ability
  • Be conversant with above and below ground assets
  • Ability to interpret asset schematics & drawings
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge and understanding of technological advances which may benefit NGN's Assets.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Operational or project management experience.
  • Good understanding of legislative requirements & documentation such as Gas Safety Management Regulations (GSMR), Electricity at Work Regulations (E@WR) and relevant Industry standards.
  • Educated to a degree level, preferably in a technical discipline
  • Working knowledge of codes of practice, engineering instructions and safety requirements
  • Ability to interpret asset inspection results
  • Membership of IGEM / IET or equivalent engineering establishment would be an advantage.
  • Practical experience working in various disciplines within the industry. In particular, biomethane.

What we Offer:

  • 2-year fixed-term, Personal Contract
  • Competitive salary of £36,000-£40,000 per annum (based upon experience)
  • 40 hours per week
  • Up to 10% bonus per annum depending on performance
