Job Details

Teacher of Horticulture based in Oswestry, Shropshire offering a salary of up to £26,000 depending on specialist qualifications.  Both Part Time and Full Time positions are available.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher with a focus on Horticulture to join our College. The post would entail the planning and delivery of relevant and challenging vocational/subject specific sessions and embedded functional skills for students including support for relevant qualifications and work experience.   

The key role responsibilities for a Teacher in Horticulture are:

  • Planning work relevant to student needs and differentiating to maximise student abilities
  • Teaching vocational / subject specific (Horticulture) curriculum including embedded functional skills
  • Delivery of accreditation where appropriate
  • Facilitating work experience sessions
  • Baseline and ongoing assessment of students and trainees
  • Timely administration work relating to teaching e.g. assessment reports, learning plans, progress reporting
  • Development / use of appropriate and stimulating teaching resources
  • Contribution to quality assurance of all aspects of curriculum area including involvement in Self -Assessment, Quality Improvement and compliance audits
  • Contribution to curriculum / commercial development to ensure curriculum strands remain relevant and challenging including fostering effective partnerships e.g. Industry Champion / Competition activity
  • To work alongside operational members of staff in commercial outlets where appropriate
  • Personal Tutor
  • Safeguarding awareness and promote the welfare of young vulnerable adults

Person Specification:

  • Teaching qualification / Specialist Qualification
  • Subject specific qualification relevant to curriculum area - Horticulture
  • Relevant Industry Sector / commercial knowledge and experience
  • Proven success of working within similar roles
  • Knowledge of Ofsted framework / external quality standards
  • Knowledge of Accreditation and RARPA
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects
  • IV and/or Assessor desired
  • Outstanding communication skills with individuals/staff at all levels
  • Highly motivated individual
  • Competent in MS Office
