Brantwood Specialist School

Brantwood Specialist School is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ruskin Mill Trust and offers a unique, holistic and pupil-centred approach to the education and care of 7-19 year olds who have not succeeded in mainstream provision.  The school provides an educational experience based on the National and Steiner Waldorf Curriculum, embedding the RMT practical skills therapeutic educational curriculum with accredited qualifications.

Applications are invited for the following post, based at Brantwood Specialist School, Sheffield.

Teaching Assistant

40 Hours per week, 40 weeks per year

Grade 5: Full Time Equivalent £20,467 - £22,172 dependent on experience.

Approximate Salary for 40 weeks £15,744 - £17,056 per annum (including holiday pay)

The key duties of this role will include:

  • To help students adjust to their new settings, recognise signs of distress and offer reassurance, and to promote and encourage the acceptance and inclusion of all pupils within the classroom and school; thereby, developing and reinforcing pupils’ self esteem.
  • Experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and/ or learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
  • To encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the Teacher.
  • To supervise and support students to ensure their safety and access to learning and facilitate students’ physical, emotional and educational development.
  • To establish and promote supportive and productive relationships with students: acting as a role model and being aware of, and responding appropriately to, individual needs.

 

 

The criteria required to undertake this position successfully include:

  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour and developed appropriate strategies.
  • Special Educational Needs training.
  • Experience of working with children/young people with learning difficulties and/or learning disabilities and special educational needs.
  • Experience of organising, and helping children and young people to participate in, practical and experiential activities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting of pupils’ progress.
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy (e.g.GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent).
  • Desirable to have NVQ 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent).
