Permanent position

Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre has been in existence for 40 years on a 36 acre site with over 40 exhibit buildings, providing hundreds of thousands of visitors with informative and inspiring experiences. The collections represent the industries of the south-east of England from 1750 to the present day. We recognise the need for continuous development and are now in an exciting period of change and have set goals to grow our visitor numbers.

Visitor attractions include a narrow-gauge railway, a nostalgic bus service, printing workshop, together with the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at a traditional craft, such as broom-making or blacksmithing, guided by highly-skilled volunteer craftspeople.  We are looking for a Facilities Operative to join the Facilities Team at the Museum, ensuring high standards of presentation, cleanliness, safety, maintenance and conservation.

You will work as part of a team to ensure high standards of presentation, cleanliness and conservation in all areas of the Museum.  You will undertake a variety of daily tasks and checks and carry out a prioritised annual programme of maintenance in line with the seasonal opening.  You will also identify and respond to unplanned maintenance and conservation tasks.

With experience of working as part of a team, including volunteers, preferably within a heritage or attraction environment, you will have experience of undertaking maintenance work and working with contractors.  It would be preferable if you have a ‘trade’, with knowledge of conservation work. You will be able to work independently, show initiative, be flexible in your approach to work and have a 'can do' attitude.  A relevant qualification in Health and Safety would be an advantage.

Due to the nature of the Museum’s work, you will be expected to be flexible with working your hours over a 7 day period during the Museum’s ‘open season’, as demanded by operational requirements.

The closing date is 9am on Monday 10th September
