Company Accountant

Role Summary

  • The Company Accountant will report to the two Directors who run and own the family company, with an employee team of five.
  • The Company Accountant will be instrumental in supporting the Directors in running the practice and ensuring efficient operations. 
  • This will include all bookkeeping activities, supported by the Directors (one of whom is a Chartered Accountant) and external accounting firm.
  • To provide general business and administrative support to the Directors.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all bookkeeping activities are completed and the Trial Balance is kept up to date (e.g. fee invoices and purchase invoices posted, credit control, bank reconciliation, payroll journals).
  • Calculate and raise fee invoices on a monthly basis, and issue to relevant stakeholders (including lawyers and clients).
  • Pro-actively engage and communicate with clients and stakeholders should any queries arise. Production of simple monthly Management Accounts (profit and loss account, KPIs).
  • Support the Director with the preparation of the annual information pack for the external accounting firm.
  • Assist the Directors with the ongoing costs and renewal processes (e.g. insurance, phones).
  • Ensure key compliance activities are met and complied with (e.g. annual return).
  • Support and assist in setting up new procedures, processes and policies for the business.
  • Ad-hoc queries and business support and development to the Directors, Case Managers and Assistant Case Managers. 

Experience, skills and knowledge required for the role:

  • Ideally formal Accountancy Qualification (e.g. AAT, Part-Qualified, Qualified).
  • Pro-active, organised and self-motivated.
  • A strong team player – able to engage other team members.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to be discrete and handle highly confidential information. 

IT skills: 

  • Intermediate Excel.
  • Experience of Sage 50 would be advantageous.
