Instructor (Horticulture Focus) at Walford Campus, Nr Baschurch , Shrewsbury, Shropshire, offering a salary of £17,056 per annum. This is a permanent and full-time position.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Instructor to join our team at Walford Campus. You will be  responsible for delivering, facilitating and supporting learning within work experience and taught sessions (Horticulture focused).  Working in conjunction with external contracts and maintaining standards and learner aspirations. You will deliver taught and work experience sessions within provision, with learners with high or complex needs and facilitate our bespoke programmes . You will also take the lead with “Leaf it to Us “operations.

The key role responsibilities are:

  • Lead / assist in the delivery of the vocational and extended curriculum including the embedding of functional skills (Horticulture focus).
  • Operational involvement within the provision remit, with a focus on leading our “Leaf it to Us” horticultural company.
  • Assist in learner action planning – attending Provision meetings.
  • Plan and prepare appropriate learning materials (in consultation with the Provision Manager).
  • Supporting students within work experience sessions (internal and external placements).
  • Administration work relating to teaching / supporting - learner records, lesson plans, database recording, assessment of student progress.
  • A personal tutor or mentor.
  • Use multimedia technology as a teaching aid, including assisting students to use specialist equipment e.g. computers, digital cameras, software, to meet their individual aspirations.
  • Active involvement, contribution and participation in team and development of the Walford Provision.
  • Facilitate and promote student social and subject learning integration/inclusion within peer group.
  • Cover for other staff during periods of annual leave or sickness.
  • To support the Provision Manager with the annual Self-Assessment Report.
  • Developing bespoke programmes as needed.  

Person Specification:

  • Commitment to undertake induction, safeguarding training and relevant qualifications linked to developing both personal and provision elements. These may include:
  • Functional Skills qualification or similar at Level 2
  • Level 2 vocational qualification in Horticulture (or prepared to work towards)
  • Food Safety certificate (or prepared to work towards)
  • Specialist qualification (Learning Difficulties) (or prepared to work towards).
  • Working as part of a team and independently.
  • Facilitating and leading small groups.
  • Ability to build co-operative relationships with others
  • Shows initiative and acts promptly
  • Demonstrates personal drive
