Main Purpose of Job:

Malachi is an innovative specialist therapeutic family support service offering a diverse range of services to children and families in schools and other community settings. Malachi adopts a pastoral working model with families and offers emotional and practical support on a wide range of issues.

Ideal candidates must have experience of:

  • Working intensively with children and families who have multiple and complex needs.
  • Be able to undertake assessments including Early Help Assessments/ report writing/ risk assessments and measuring and monitoring outcomes and be able to positively engage with children and their families.

Our interventions take the form of working therapeutically on a 121 basis with parents, children and young people as well as having whole family sessions in order to address the difficulties within the family and to break down barriers preventing change. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To practice in line with Malachi’s child protection policy and procedures at all times and keep the safeguarding of children at the forefront of all duties making referrals to the appropriate children’s services team where it is deemed a child is at risk of harm.
  • To practice in line with equal opportunity, anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive policies and procedures.
  • To professionally represent Malachi, by working in line with the policies and procedures of the company at all times.
  • To work directly with children in need and their families in Schools and community settings where a referral has been received in order to offer emotional and practical support to both children and parents/carers.
  • To make accurate assessments and action plans and work to these identified actions in order to positively influence family situations.
  • Following relevant training, to contribute to/lead the Common Assessment Framework or Early Help Assessments process where appropriate (full training can be given).
  • To attend Core Group/Child in Need/Initial and review child protection conferences and meetings within schools.
  • To prepare accurate and timely reports to present at the required meetings.
  • To work with parents directly to uncover their underlying issues affecting inter family relationships and promote, strengthen and develop the resilience and potential of parents/carers and children.
  • Liaise with Children’s Services (Adults/Children’s Services) and professionals within external agencies, as agreed within plans for children.
  • Keep written and electronic records/assessments and action plans.
  • Work appropriately within the boundaries of confidentiality.
  • To liaise with class teachers and other relevant professionals where necessary.
  • Ensure that service users are as fully involved as possible in decisions which affect them individually including the workers assessment and action plans.
