School Mentor Co-ordinator

Starting Date:  As soon as possible

28 Hours per Week across 4 days (8:30-4:30pm)/Term Time Only

Scale: LBR8 (£30,324 -£31,998) Pro-rata (subject to grading assessment currently being undertaken by HR’).

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to work within a diverse and forward thinking Inclusion Department at Woodbridge High School in bringing about a sustained change pupils and to address the needs of the students who require social, developmental and emotional support at school.

The role of the Inclusion Mentor Co-ordinator will involve enhancing and delivering the Inclusion mentoring provision, recruiting volunteer mentors and providing 1:1 support to students of all abilities with issues such as: 

•    Lack of self-confidence, self-esteem or motivation
•    Behavioural or emotional difficulties
•    Difficulty with relationships, bullying, social skills
•    Personal crises such as bereavement or problems at home
•    Difficulty settling into school
•    Poor attendance

Woodbridge High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including references from previous employers, and a Criminal Bureau Records check at the enhanced level and compliance with Sections 15-25 of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 (eligibility to work in the UK).  Interviews will be conducted in person, and they will explore candidates’ suitability to work with children.

Person Specification


  • Accredited qualification in mentoring
  • Some safeguarding knowledge
  • G.C.S.E or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics

Relevant Experience and knowledge:

  • Experience of working as a mentor with young people
  • Experience of collaborative/multi-agency working

Skills, Abilities and Qualities:

  • Excellent communication and listening skills;
  • The  ability to analyse problems and devise solutions;
  • Assertiveness in dealing with pupils and fellow professionals;
  • Determination to see problems and solutions through to the end;
  • The ability to relate to young people and young adults;
  • A commitment to equality and diversity;
  • An understanding of confidentiality and the handling of sensitive information;
  • A commitment to safeguarding.
