I.T. Infrastructure & Support Manager – Arlington Aerospace Ltd

Responsible to:  Group I.T. Manager

The role of I.T. Infrastructure & Support Manager

  • Provides effective and efficient administration and management of the I.T. environment for all stakeholders. 
  • Provides recommendations in association with Group I.T. Manager for future strategic planning and the development of resources. 
  • Ensures that quality and satisfaction levels within existing I.T. services remains high.
  • Manages peripheral projects on various scales for the provision of new and the improvement of existing services.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective and ongoing infrastructure support for all systems used by the company ensuring that the service provided to users/customers is the highest possible within the resources available.
  • Provide management support in other areas where change / project management requirements determine this to be appropriate.
  • Provide initial day to day management of a ‘support/helpdesk’ function to ensure incidents and service requests are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Undertake scoping and project management for both new and for the improvement of existing applications and services.
  • Provide regular status reporting of the I.T. service operation.
  • Manage day to day issues with suppliers (support/billing) to ensure efficient support and value for money is provided escalating issues to Group I.T. Manager as appropriate.
  • Provide input into IT budget preparation process in association with Group I.T. Manager.
  • Ensure that cyclical works such as D.R. (disaster recovery) testing and software & hardware audits are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor service related invoices for accuracy, challenging and resolving discrepancies as necessary.
  • Ensure 3rd party service contracts represent value for money and are renewed in a timely fashion.

Working Environment / Physical Challenges

  • The job involves frequent use of a keyboard and regular essential travel between sites to provide administrative support/maintenance of I.T. systems
  • The job holder is required to work out of the office from time to time and is expected to travel to supplier and reference sites from time to time.

Financial responsibility

  • Responsible for monitoring expenditure on 3rd party support elements of the I.T. budget.
  • Required to provide input into I.T. budget preparation.

Responsibility for Non-financial assets

  • Responsible for the maintenance of mission critical documentation relating to I.T. services used throughout the organization
  • Responsible for ensuring that disaster recovery provisions are tested annually and for highlighting any operational risk associated with the provision.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all I.T. assets (hardware/software & documentation) are accounted for.

Standard Requirements

  • Flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to the role and may be asked to perform other duties which reasonably correspond to the general character of the role and their level of responsibility.
  • Expected to maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the role and participate in appropriate learning and development activities.
  • Broad and thorough knowledge of installation, configuration, monitoring and maintenance of computer systems and networks.
  • Experience in troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults.
  • Broad and thorough knowledge/expertise of user administration tasks (MS Active Directory, Windows server, SQL, Printing etc.)
  • Excellent project management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships at all levels ensuring that a high level of service and support is provided to all internal and external stakeholders.
