Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor

Salary: £35,000 - £55,000 PA

My client is a global leading Engineering, Civil and Construction business, and market leading within the Aviation sector, regarding large Civil projects at Heathrow Airport.

You will need to work with teams and individuals constantly achieving company deadlines and targets, and have the ability to communicate effectively and clearly

to develop and maintain working relationships, whilst providing support to the Head of Health Safety Quality and Environment, and the development of EHS strategies and internal policy.

You will be required to ensure that the requirements of the QMS are being applied on site and administrative offices, by means of inspection, audits and meetings.

Monitoring and facilitating compliance to the FA SMS and the requirements of BS OHSAS 18001:2007.

Provide information, training and instruction and task-specific advice to operational and managerial personnel.

Provide assistance to Business Development for health & safety aspects of pre-qualification questionnaires and tenders.

Support and assist the Senior members of Health and Safety

- Supporting the input for the development of robust health, safety and environmental plans, risk assessments and safe work procedures
- Assisting in the development of Health, Safety and Environmental plans for future bids and proposals
- Review current operational risk assessments and safe working procedures and practice to ensure suitability and that they are and remain "fit for purpose"
- Undertake regular site inspections and compliance audits across the business portfolio (both planned or unplanned) to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and adhered to
- Manage records of site inspection findings to ensure the appropriate control measures are being implemented by the project teams to reduce risk
- Undertake the appropriate level of investigation for any accident / incident / dangerous occurrence that takes place to identify the root cause and recommend the most effective corrective actions to be put in place to prevent a recurrence
- Provide the appropriate level of health safety and environmental input and attendance as required at project progress meetings (internal and external)
- Act as a guide during external audits
- Provide regular reports and statistical data on the status of HS&E matters
- Assist in the development and deployment of tool box talks, safety bulletins and other communicated medias regarding HS & E activities
- Provide on-site HS & E support to meet project requirements
- Provide a point of liaison to external regulators


- Hold a recognised qualification in health and safety and / or environmental management
- Hold membership ( Preferred Charted Level) to a recognised professional body (IOSH, IIRSM, IEMA )
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of current Occupational Safety, Health and Environment legislation and requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience required.
- Experience in developing and implementing a cultural change programme within a large / diverse organisation
- Internal auditing experience (OHSAS 18001 / ISO14001 auditor)
- Familiarity with construction / project work and current CDM requirements
- Ability to work flexible working hours with a degree of travel, to support business requirements
- Computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages
- Excellent oral and written communication and negotiating skills and the ability to represent the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment viewpoint both internally and externally
- Effectiveness in dealing with personnel at all levels
- Experience in a health and safety construction back ground would be advantageous
- NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Construction Safety and Health or equivalent
- CSCS card holder
- Knowledge and experience, of the requirements of BS OHSAS 18001:2007
- Good health & safety legislation knowledge.
