Coverage care is a not for profit organisation with 14 care homes in Shropshire providing EMI, Nursing and Residential facilities. Briarfields sits in the quiet residential area of Belle Vue on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, there are 42 individual residential rooms and the home is divided into units with lounge/diners which enable relaxed interaction

Assistant Manager - 22.5 hours per week

Post Objective: To provide high quality care, as a member of an integrated management team, leading by example, to meet the physical, emotional, social, psychological, spiritual and intellectual needs of service users in accordance with Coverage Care's Code of Practice and all current relevant legislation.

Job Description - Summary of Principal Responsibilities:

To lead and supervise a team of staff in the provision of care services and participate in meeting the service user's physical, social, emotional and recreational needs, ensuring that the highest quality of care is afforded to all service users

To build and maintain good relationships with residents and their relatives, promoting at all times, the health and wellbeing of service users and to ensure each service user has an active, varied and interesting life which respects individual choice and capability.

To supervise the preparation of Person Centred Care Plans, Review & Assessments, implementing plans with the assistance of a care team. Prepare and/or contribute to reports, reviews and assessments in order to enhance the quality of services.

Ensure records are maintained and updated as required in order to enhance the quality of services in relation to maintaining the well-being, dignity, quality of life and environment of the service users.

Ensure that service user confidentiality & dignity is maintained at all times.

Undertake regular supervisions/appraisals to assess performance and encourage development within the care team and co-ordinate and run Staff Meetings to deliver information and maintain best practice.

To work with the nursing and care team to set standards for care, informed through evidence based practice, and act as a role model at all times

To promote company initiatives and manage delivery within the services provision, ensuring that all staff are working to company policies and procedures, and to take appropriate action to ensure that standards are reached and maintained.

Take responsibility for the presentation and appearance of the establishment and the maintenance of its equipment and facilities consistent with the requirements of the Company.

Ensure that you are aware of all financial matters associated with the running of the home and help obtain the maximum benefit from the available funds.

To undertake and lead projects to improve service provision as and when required

Take day-to-day management responsibility for the establishment in accordance with the Duty Manager rota and participate in the 'sleep-in' rota as required.

Ensure that the care home and it's services are marketed in the most effective manner to external bodies and professionals e.g. GPs surgeries, social workers, hospitals, registered housing associations, Age Concern, and the public at large.

To participate in appropriate training, including the Assessors Award, and attend staff meetings as requested by the Manager. To continuously review your practices to develop new skills and knowledge through continuous professional development and training maintain a sound working knowledge of current care/nursing legislation/standards that contributes to the enhancement of patient care skills.

As a member of the management team, support the Manager in meeting the Company's policies, procedures and legal obligations. Additionally, ensure that you are always up to date with company issues and performance targets, and undertake company projects as and when required.

Take responsibility and accountability for the establishment, its resources and services during the Manager's authorised absence. Ensure the general manager is kept up to date on any ongoing issues on a regular basis.

To ensure that health and safety regulations and equal opportunities are adhered to at all times. Be aware of emergency procedures, report hazards to the Manager and respond to emergencies as appropriate.

a) Day-to-day responsibility for the health and safety of staff, service users and visitors; meeting the Company's Policies, Procedures and legal obligations

b) Take responsibility for the implementation of the Company's staff training and development programmes, ensuring that records are maintained.

c) Take day-to-day responsibility for the enabling of service users to participate in a range of activities of their choosing.

The duties in this job description are not exhaustive, but instead, are representative of the type of work required in the post. The post holder will, therefore, be required to undertake other duties deemed appropriate and consistent with the purpose of the job. This role may involve shift patterns to include day, evening & weekend working.
