A leading Financial Services firm based in London is looking for a Senior Credit Analyst

Client Details

Working for a leading mutual insurance company that provides liability and property coverage, as well as related risk management services, to the energy industry.

The position on offer is that of a Senior Credit Analyst within a newly established Political & Financial Risk team operating from a Lloyd's Syndicate. The book will write all manner of political and credit risks within the unit for a range of clients including international commercial and investment banks, traders, multilaterals and multinationals.

The unit has the capability to write classic political risk (expropriation and political violence business), together with sovereign risks, both trade and non-trade related, and structured credit risks on private obligors. The tenor or period of these transactions can be anything from 1 month to 10 years and whilst the book will have exposures around the globe the focus is on Emerging Markets. The insurance products indemnify against loss caused by political action and interference as well as default under contracts whether it be in the form of non-payment or non-performance


The successful candidate's primary role will be to assist the Class Underwriter in assessing the suitability and creditworthiness of such transactions as they are received via brokers from the clients. The analyst will draw on independent 3rd party resources such as S&P/Fitch and intelligence providers such as IHS Markit, Eurasia in addition to the print media such as the FT. Client material - documents, calls and meetings - also forms part of the assessment process. An ability to analyse a transaction in the round, determining pure credit quality, whilst also weighing qualitative factors is critical. Sound judgement and a keen commercial outlook are essential as is the confidence to make evidence-based decisions and articulate reasons for same.

Review and analyse the many "risks"/transactions as they come in on a daily basis: involves review of financials statements, financial models, information memoranda, etc

Oversight and relationship management of principal analytical resources: rating agency databases, intelligence providers

Accurately maintain exposure limits by obligor and country

Supply summary reports to reinsurers and internal stakeholders as required

Periodically review country ratings to ensure limits and appetite remains up to date.

Provide periodic risk reviews on relevant topics and sectors


Requirements for the Senior Credit Analyst:

Solid undergraduate degree or more, preferably in related field, e.g. Economics, accounting.

Familiar with a wide range of financing structures including prepayments od all types including, pre-export finance facilities, leveraged finance, documentary credits, syndicated loan facilities, club loans, export finance, supply chain finance

Ideally 5 + years as an analyst within a major financial institution, preferably with experience of commodity finance
