Database Administrator - £35,000 - £40,000


The Purpose:

Ensure availability and technical operation of the application and database infrastructure, primarily database administration, but contributing to operations of application, Internet and intranet services. Work closely with IT colleagues, third party suppliers, and teams within the organisation to ensure that services are always available to the public and to internal customers.
Work collaboratively to ensure the incident, request, problem, change and release processes are managed and adhered to, dealing with and working with colleagues to resolve incidents and requests, escalating to the appropriate support teams and third party suppliers, as necessary. Deliver project co-ordination/management of new technology solutions and upgrades, as appropriate, and implementation of best practice ITIL service management procedures, embedding them within our operational services.

Essential Competencies:
Deliver a Quality Service

*Hands-on skills and direct operational experience of the following: Database administration, Windows SQL Server and support/development tools such as SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), standalone database systems, clustering and replication. Some knowledge of, Powershell scripting, the MySQL database system and tools and the Mongo DB toolset. Working knowledge of a modern operational infrastructure - e.g., Microsoft IIS, Apache HTTP, Apache Tomcat (in a Windows server environment) and systems development tools and architecture: ASP, MVC, C#.NET
*Proven experience of working with SQL to develop, query, and manipulate large complex datasets using relational database concepts and structures. Demonstrable skillset including Transact-SQL (T-SQL), scripting, stored procedures, triggers, and execution plans. An in- depth understanding of systems and database architecture and its implications for database application performance
*Demonstrable experience of dealing with incident management with a proactive, solutions-focused approach and of working in an ITIL environment. A self-starter able to work on own initiative, managing and prioritising own and team workload, managing competing priorities to deliver to tight deadlines and under pressure
